What exactly is a content style guide, and how does it differ from a tone of voice guide?
Many people use “(content) style guide” and “tone of voice guide” interchangeably, but they’re not quite the same.
A content style guide defines the rules for written content within your business. It covers grammar, punctuation, spelling, terminology – including off-brand words – and formatting preferences for numbers, dates, and more.
Will you use the Oxford comma in your English communications? Should your German communication use du or Sie? Your content style guide will answer these and many other questions.
A tone of voice guide focuses on how your brand communicates with your (external) audience. For instance, should it sound playful or strictly professional? These choices shape your brand’s personality and how customers perceive and interact with it.
Some companies include their tone of voice guidelines within their broader content style guide. I do the same in my service, so you have everything writing-related in one place!

My style guide service is right for you if you’re looking to achieve consistency in your marketing communications to build trust with your audience while showcasing your brand’s personality.
I help you create your content style guide in English and German. To make it look nice, I work with a graphic designer. This service is included in the offer unless you specify otherwise. You also have the option to choose a format that works for your brand (e.g. PDF document, Canva slides, PowerPoint presentation).
